In 2010, at the age of 6, I have a memory of watching my first international comprehensive sports event—the Guangzhou Asian Games. The 2012 London Olympics, the 2016 Rio Olympics, and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, I always stayed in front of the TV for the opening ceremonies, and this year is no exception.
From television to social media, from black and white to color, and now to today's 4K/8K HDR and even cloud broadcasting, watching the Olympics has always been a visual feast. Behind this, since the Olympics introduced television broadcasting, the continuous advancement of broadcasting technology has been innovating the viewing experience for audiences. We are also pleased to see more and more Chinese television professionals appearing in the production of major sporting events, a change that has occurred in just a few editions, over a span of just over a decade.
For each Olympic Games, in addition to focusing on the competition results, I always approach the visual packaging and shot design both inside and outside the venue with an appreciation and learning mindset. I also enjoy watching various behind-the-scenes documentaries from news media during the Olympics, perhaps out of interest, or perhaps because the Olympics represent the highest level of live sports broadcasting production achieved by humanity to date.
After all, "the Olympics under the lens is the Olympics seen by the whole world."
What new technologies and changes will the upcoming Paris Olympics bring? Let's wait and see 😎😎.
